"Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil."

+For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and always and for ever and ever." Amen.

The Troparia to the Holy Trinity:

"As we rise from sleep we worship You, O good and powerful Lord, and to You we sing the Angel's hymn: Holy, Holy, Holy are You, O God; through the Mother of God, have mercy on us.

+ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Having raised me from bed and sleep, O Lord, enlighten my mind, and open my heart and lips to praise You, O Holy Trinity: Holy, Holy, Holy are You, O God; through the Mother of God, have mercy on us.

Now and always, and forever and ever." Amen.

Suddenly the Judge will come, and the deeds of each will be laid bare; but at midnight let us cry with fear: Holy, Holy, Holy are You, O God; through the Mother of God, have mercy on us.

Lord, have mercy." (12 times)

Troparion:

"The night is passed and day drawn near: Your light has shone upon the world, therefore, the orders of Angels sing Your glorious praises, O Christ God."

Psalm 120 (121):

"I look to the mountains; where will my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. May he not let me fall; may my protector keep awake! The protector of Israel does not doze or sleep The Lord will guard you; he is by your side to protect you. The sun will not hurt you during the day, nor the moon during the night. The Lord will protect you from all danger; he will keep you safe. He will protect you as you come and go, from now on and forever.

+ Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and always and forever and ever. Amen.

The Nicene Creed

"I believe in one God, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotton Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages: Light of light, true God of true God, begotten, not made, of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven, and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and became man; who was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered, and was buried; who rose on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and is enthroned at the right hand of the Father; who will come again with glory to judge the living and the dead; and of whose kingdom there shall be no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father, who together with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who spoke through the prophets. In one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I profess one baptism for the remission of sins. I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come." Amen.

Prayer of St. Basil the Great to the Most Holy Trinity

"As I rise from sleep I thank You, O Holy Trinity, for through Your great goodness and patience You were not angered with me, an idler and sinner, nor have You destroyed me in my sins, but have shown Your usual love for me, and when I was prostrate in despair, You have raised me to keep the morning watch and glorify Your power. And now enlighten my mind's eye and open my mouth to study Your words and understand Your commandments and do Your will and sing to You in heartfelt adoration and praise Your most Holy Name of Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and ever, and forever." Amen.

Another prayer of St. Basil the Great:

Almighty Lord, God of the Powers and of all flesh, Who lives in the highest and cares for the humble, Who searches our hearts and affections, and clearly foreknows the secrets of men; eternal and ever-living Light, in Whom is no change nor shadow of variation; O Immortal King, receive our prayers which at the present time we offer to You from unclean lips, trusting in the multitude of Your mercies. Forgive all sins committed by us in thought, word or deed, consciously or unconsciously, and cleanse us from all defilement of flesh and spirit. Grant us to pass the night of the whole present life with wakeful heart and sober thought, ever expecting the coming of the radiant day of the appearing of Your only-begotten Son, our Lord and God and Savior, Jesus Christ, when the Judge of all will come with glory to render to each according to their deeds. May we not be found fallen and idle, nut awake and alert for action, ready to accompany Him into the joy and divine palace of His glory, where there is the ceaseless sound of those keeping festival and the unspeakable delight of those who behold the ineffable beauty of Your Face. For You are the true Light that enlightens and sanctifies all, and all creation sings to You throughout the ages." Amen.

Prayers to the Mother of God

Under your tender compassion we run, O Mother of God, reject not our prayer in our trouble, but deliver us from harm, only pure, only blessed one. Most glorious Ever-Virgin, Mother of Christ our God, present our prayer to your Son and our God and pray that through you He may save our souls."

"It is fitting and right to call you blessed, O Theotokos; you are ever-blessed and all-blameless and the Mother of our God. Higher in honor than the Cherubim and more glorious without compare than the Seraphim, you gave birth to God the Word in virginity. You are truly Mother of God; you do we exalt."

Lord, have mercy. (3 times)

"God be gracious to us and bless us, and shine Your countenance upon us and have mercy on us. This is the day which the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Prayers During The Day

Early Morning:

"O Christ, true Light who enlightens and sanctifies every man in the world: mark us with the light of your countenance that we may see the unapproachable radiance Let our life be straight along the way of your commandments, through the prayers of your Mother all-pure and of all your saints." Amen.

9 A.M.:

O Master God: Almighty Father, Only-begotten Son, Lord Jesus Christ, and Holy Spirit--one God and one Might: have mercy on me a sinner and save me your unworthy servant according to the ways of your wisdom, for You are blessed for ever and ever." Amen.

Noon:

O God, Lord of Powers and Maker of the whole creation, O You who in your compassion beyond understanding deigned to send down your Only-begotten Son our Lord Jesus Christ for the salvation of our race; who through his cross cancelled the debt of our sins and overcame the powers and masters of darkness, O Lord and Lover of Mankind; accept from us sinners these prayers of thanksgiving and petition and preserve us against any deadly fall in the darkness and against every enemy seen or unseen who may be seeking our harm. Pierce our bodies with the fear of You; so that looking on You at all times and guided by the light that shines from You, we may behold the unapproachable eternal light and unceasingly address to You, Eternal Father, and to your only-begotten Son and to your all holy, good and life-giving Spirit our thanksgiving and worship, now and always and for ever and ever. Amen.

3  P.M.:

"O Master, Lord Jesus Christ, who patiently endured our sins and led us to this hour at which You were hung up on the life-giving wood; who opened a way to paradise for the penitent thief and crushed death by your death; forgive us the trespasses that we your servants have committed, unworthy sinners that we are. We have sinned indeed and transgressed your law; we are unworthy even to lift up our eyes to heaven, for we have abandoned the path of your holiness and pursued the desires of our hearts. But now we implore your immense goodness; spare us, O Lord, in the multitude of your mercies; save us for the sake of your most holy name. Our days were spent in vanity; wrest us from the hands of our enemy and forgive us our sins. Subdue in us the cravings of our flesh, so that, after putting off the old man, we may put on the new and live for You, our Lord and Benefactor; and that, obeying your commandments, we may reach eternal repose in the place where all the blessed abide, for You are truly joy and delight to those who love You, Christ our God! We send up glory to You, and to your eternal Father, and to your all-holy, good and life-giving Spirit, now and always and for ever and ever." Amen.

Sunset:

At nightfall, dawn and noon, we sing to You, we bless You, we give thanks to You and we beseech You, O Master of All, O Lord and Lover of Mankind: guide our prayers aright as an offering of incense before You; let not our hearts be led to words or thoughts of wickedness, but save us from all those who pursue our souls. For all glory, honor and adoration are your due, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and always and forever and ever. Amen.

O joyful Light of the holy glory of the Father Immortal; heavenly, holy, blessed Jesus Christ! Since we have come to the setting of the sun and have seen the evening light, we praise God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. It is proper for you to be praised at all times by fitting melodies. O Son of God, Giver of life, therefore the world glorifies You!

Anytime:

The Prayer of the Hours:

O You who in all times and places are worshipped and glorified, both in heaven and on earth, Christ God, long-suffering, generous in mercy and rich in compassion, loving to the just and merciful to the sinner; O You who call all men to repentance through the promise of blessings to come; deign, O Lord, at this very hour to receive our supplications and to direct our lives in the way of your commandments. Sanctify our souls, purify our bodies, set our minds aright, cleanse our thoughts; deliver us from all affliction, wrath, danger and need; surround us with your holy angles so that, guided and guarded in their camp, we may reach the oneness of the Faith and the knowledge of your unutterable glory, O You who are blessed for ever and ever! Amen.

Philaret's Prayer

O Lord, I know not what to ask of You. You alone know what are my true needs. You love me more than I myself know how to love. Help me to see my real needs which are concealed from me. I dare not ask either cross or consolation. I can only wait on You. My heart is open to You. Visit and help me for Your great mercy's sake. Strike me and heal me, cast me down and raise me up. I worship in silence Your holy will and Your unsearchable ways. I offer myself as a sacrifice to You. I put all my trust in You. I have no other desire than to fulfill Your will. Teach me how to pray. Do You pray Yourself in me. Amen.

Prayer Of St. Macarius The Great To God The Father

O Eternal God and King of all creation, Who has granted me to arrive at this hour, forgive me the sins that I have committed today in thought, word and deed, and cleanse, O Lord, my humble soul from all defilement of flesh and spirit. And grant me, O Lord, to pass the sleep of this night in peace, that when I rise from my bed I may please Your most holy Name all the days of my life and conquer my flesh and the fleshless foes that war with me. And deliver me, O Lord, from vain and frivolous thoughts, and from evil desires which defile me. For Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and ever and forever. Amen.

Prayer of St. John Chrysostom

(Supplicatory prayers corresponding to the twenty-four hours of the day.)

Day:

"Lord, deprive me not of Your heavenly joys. Lord, deliver me from eternal torments. Lord, if I have sinned in mind or thought, in word or deed, forgive me. Lord, deliver me from all ignorance, forgetfulness, cowardice and stony insensibility. Lord, deliver me from every temptation. Lord, enlighten my heart which evil desires have darkened. Lord, I being human have sinned, but You being the generous God, have mercy on me, knowing the sickness of my soul. Lord, send Your grace to my help, that I may glorify Your holy Name. Lord Jesus Christ, write me Your servant in the Book of Life, and grant me a good end. O Lord my God, even though I have done nothing good in Your sight, yet grant me by Your grace to make a good start. Lord, sprinkle into my heart the dew of Your grace. Lord of heaven and earth remember me, Your sinful servant, shameful and unclean, in Your kingdom. Amen.

Night:

"O Lord, accept me in penitence. O Lord, leave me not. O Lord, lead me not into temptation. O Lord, grant me good thoughts. O Lord, grant me tears and remembrance of death and compunction. O Lord, grant me the thought of confessing my sins. O Lord, grant me humility, chastity and obedience. O Lord, grant me patience, courage and meekness. O Lord, plant in me the root of all blessings, the fear of You in my heart. O Lord, grant me to love always to do Your will. O Lord, protect me from certain people, and demons, and passions, and from every other harmful thing. O Lord, You know that You act as You will; may Your will be also in me, a sinner, for blessed are You for ever. Amen.

O Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, for the sake of Your most honorable Mother, Your fleshless Angels, Your Prophet and Forerunner and Baptizer, all the God inspired Apostles, the radiant and victorious Martyrs, the holy and God-bearing Fathers, and by the prayers of all Saints, deliver me from the besetting presence of the devil. My Lord and Creator, Who desires not the death of the sinner, but that he should be converted and live, grant also conversion to me, wretched and unworthy, snatch me from the jaws of the pernicious serpent, who is ravening to devour me and drag me down to hell alive. My Lord, my Comfort, Who was clothed in corruptible flesh for my miserable sake, deliver me from misery and grant comfort to my miserable soul. Implant in my heart to fulfill Your commandments, and forsake my evil deeds, and to receive Your joys. Save me, for I hope in You, O Lord. Amen.

Prayer of Intercession to the Most Holy Mother of God

O good Mother of the good King, most pure and blessed Virgin Mary, pour out the mercy of your Son and our God on my passionate soul and guide me in good works by your prayers, that I may pass the rest of my life without defilement, and find paradise through you, O Virgin Mother of God, who alone are pure and blessed

Prayer of Intercession to the holy Guardian Angel

O Angel of Christ, my holy Guardian and Protector of my soul and body, forgive me all my sins of today. Deliver me from all the wiles of the enemy, that I may not anger my God by any sin. Pray for me, sinful and unworthy servant, that you may present me worthy of the All-holy Trinity and the Mother of my Lord Jesus Christ, and of all the Saints. Amen.

Prayer of Intercession to the holy Theotokos

Queen of the Heavenly Host, Defender of our souls, we your servants offer to you songs of victory and thanksgiving, for you, O Mother of God, have delivered us from dangers. But as you have invincible power, free us from conflicts of all kinds that we may cry to you: Rejoice, unwedded Bride. Most glorious, Ever-Virgin, blessed Mother of Christ our God, present our prayer to your Son and our God, and pray that through you He may save our souls. I put all my hope in you, O Mother of God. Guard me under your protection. O Virgin Mother of God, despise not me, a sinner, needing your help and protection, and have mercy on me, for my soul hopes in you.

Prayer: (lacking the opportunity of asking pardon of each person)

O God, absolve, remit, and pardon our voluntary and involuntary sins, in word and deed, known and unknown, by day and by night, in mind and thought; forgive us all, in Your goodness and love for men.

Prayer of Intercession

O Lord, Lover of men, forgive those who hate and wrong us. Do good to those who do good. Grant our brothers and relatives their saving petitions and eternal life. Visit the sick and grant them healing Guide those at sea. Travel with travelers. Struggle alongside the Orthodox. To those who serve and are kind to us, grant remission of sins. On those who have charged us, unworthy as we are, to pray for them, have mercy according to Your great mercy. Remember, O Lord, our fathers and brothers who have fallen asleep, and grant them their saving petitions and eternal life. Remember also, O Lord, us Your humble, sinful and unworthy servants, and enlighten our minds with the light of knowledge of yourself, and guide us in the way of Your commandments, by the prayers of our immaculate Lady, Mother of God, and Ever-Virgin Mary, and of all Your Saints, for You are blessed to the ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer of St. John of Damascus

O Lord, Lover of men, is this bed to be my coffin, or will You enlighten my wretched soul with another day? Here the coffin lies before me, I fear, O Lord, Your Judgment and the endless torments, yet I cease not to do evil. My Lord God, I continually anger You, and Your immaculate Mother, and all the Heavenly Powers, and my holy Guardian Angel. I know, O Lord, that I am unworthy of Your love, but deserve condemnation and every torment. But, whether I want it or not, save me, O Lord. For to save a good man is no great thing, and to have mercy on the pure is nothing wonderful, for they are worthy of Your mercy. But show the wonder of Your mercy on me, a sinner. In this reveal Your love for men, lest my wickedness prevail over Your unutterable goodness and mercy. And order my life as You will.

At Bedtime

(As sleep is the image of death, at night we pray for the departed.)

With the Saints give rest, O Christ, to the souls of Your servants where there is no pain, no sorrow, no sighing, but life everlasting.

(When about to lie down in bed, say:)

Lighten my eyes, O Christ God, lest I sleep in death, and lest my enemy say: I have  prevailed over him.

+Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Be my soul's Defender, O God, for I step over many snares. Deliver me from them and save me, O Good One, in Your love for men.

Now and ever, and to the ages of ages. Amen.

Let us not silently hymn the most glorious Mother of God, holiest of holy Angels, but confess her with heart and mouth to be the Mother of God, for she truly bore God incarnate for us, and prays without ceasing for our souls. Amen.

(Kiss your cross, and make the sign of the Cross from head to foot of the bed and from two sides, and then say:)

"Let God arise, and let His enemies be scattered; and let those who hate Him flee from His presence. As smoke vanishes, let them vanish; and as wax melts from the presence of fire, so let the demons perish from the presence of those who love God and who sign themselves with the Sign of the Cross and say in gladness: Hail, most precious and life-giving Cross of the Lord, for You drive away the demons by the power of our Lord Jesus Christ crucified on thee, Who went down to hell and trampled on the power of the devil, and gave us you, His venerable Cross, for driving away all enemies. O most precious and life-giving Cross of the Lord, help me with our holy Lady, the Virgin Mother of God, and with all the Saints throughout the ages." Amen.

(Just before getting into bed, say:)

"Guard me, O Lord, by the power of Your holy and life-giving Cross, and keep me from all evil."

(Just before yielding yourself up to sleep, say:)

"Into Your hands, O Lord Jesus Christ, my God, I surrender my spirit and body; bless me, save me, and grant me eternal life." Amen.

The Prayer of St Ephrem the Syrian

O Lord and master of my life! Grant that I may not be infected with the spirit of slothfulness and inquisitiveness, with the spirit of ambition and vain talking. (Bow to the ground)

Grant instead to me your servant the spirit of purity and humility, the spirit of patience and neighborly love. (Bow to the ground)

O Lord and King! Bestow upon me the grace of being aware of my sins and of not thinking evil of those of my brethren; for you are blessed forever and ever. Amen. (Bow to the ground)

O God, have mercy on me a sinner. (12 times with small bows)

(Then again, with one bow to the ground) Yes, O Lord and King, bestow upon me the grace of being aware of my sins and of not thinking evil of those of my brethren; for you are blessed forever and ever. Amen.
